Flathead Community Foundation
FCF awards grants to 47 local charities
In its year-end grant distributions, Flathead Community Foundation has sent checks to 47 local non-profit charities ranging from $100 to $1,000.
About half the monies came from a donor-advised fund created by a local family to aid local workers assisting the homeless and hungry. The rest was from FCF’s Flathead Fund, through which FCF responds to the Flathead’s most pressing needs.
FCF Grant Committee Chairman Muffie Thomson, Lakeside, said Flathead Fund grant recipients represent every community in Flathead County, and all charitable sectors. “We spread the grants around to have as much impact as possible. The agency list covers human needs, arts, education, seniors, children, animals and conservation.”
Thomson said grants issued this year are double the amount FCF granted in 2005. “Even though some of these first awards are modest, they have been greatly appreciated by the worthy charities that received them.”
Established in 2005, FCF is one of over 500 community foundations in the U.S. In lieu of managing a private foundation, donors can use FCF to create a personal fund, or make a gift of any size to the Flathead Fund. Those with personal funds, or their heirs, may advise FCF as to how they wish proceeds from their fund to be distributed. The minimum gift to establish a personal fund is $5,000.
