Designing Your Fund - The Flathead Community Foundation can help you design a permanent or short-term fund that meets your individual needs. The minimum gift to establish a new fund is $5,000. There is no minimum for adding to an existing fund or donating to the Flathead Fund.
Endowment Funds – Our primary function is to manage permanent endowment funds. The original and all subsequent gifts to the endowment are invested in perpetuity, and fund growth is disbursed according to the donor’s charitable intent.
Pass-through Funds – Donors with a special circumstance (i.e. year-end giving, financial windfall) may channel gifts through a short term pass-through fund for distribution at a later date.
Types of Funds
All endowment and pass-through funds and gifts fall into one of the following categories:
The Flathead Fund – This general fund of the Flathead Community Foundation allows us to respond to the community’s most pressing needs now, and in the future. Gifts of any size are welcomed to this fund at anytime.
Field of Interest Funds – Gifts are designated for an area of charitable endeavor such as Arts, Education, Health Care, Historic Preservation, Social Services and the Environment.
Agency Funds – Gifts benefit certain nonprofit organizations as specified by the donor. These may be charities included in the Field of Interest description above; also schools, churches, fire departments or other civic projects.
Donor-Advised Fund – This type of fund may be established without naming a specific charity or cause. The donor, family, heirs, or other designee may advise the Foundation annually as to how they wish the funds to be distributed.
