A Message to our community of supporters: The Flathead Community Foundation Board of Directors decided to consolidate its charitable assets with Whitefish Community Foundation. This will improve the efficiency and scale of local philanthropy in the Flathead Valley. With this decision, Whitefish Community Foundation will serve the charitable interests of the region and continue to improve the quality of life for present and future generations. This decision will also preserve the program initiatives and the donor intentions of all the funds that FCF held. By selecting to transfer our assets to WCF, FCF’s Board has preserved the social and financial assets built up over our past 15 years of service.
Over the past year, Flathead Community Foundation has been evaluating the future options for promoting local philanthropy. Three scenarios were viable to fulfill our mission for the Flathead Valley. First, we could stay as we are currently structured as a voluntary based community foundation like so many in Montana. Second, we could invest in upgrading all the foundation’s services and systems. Or third, we could consolidate charitable assets with another community foundation with a common mission and geographical focus.
The success of Flathead Community Foundation’s collaboration with Whitefish Community Foundation on the COVID-19 National Day of Giving and Unity in May of this year settled that discussion. It became clear to FCF’s Board that the communities of the greater Flathead valley would be most efficiently and effectively served if we transferred our charitable assets to Whitefish Community Foundation. Local philanthropy will continue uninterrupted according to the intended purposes of the transferred assets.
The Board and staff would like to thank all the fund holders, donors and nonprofits that have been involved with FCF over the years. We know that your generosity and community service will continue to build a better Flathead for future generations.
